Canadian golfer Gary Cowan is one of the most successful and revered amateur golfers of the past century. This year marks 50 years since his historic–and dramatic win–at Delaware’s Wilmington Country Club. On September 4, 1971, the Kitchener, Ontario native captured his second U.S. Amateur title by holing his second shot for eagle on the 72nd hole. To celebrate this anniversary, Golf Canada is working with Cowan, his home club (Westmount Golf & Country Club), and author David McPherson, on a commemorative project: the Gary Cowan Heritage Collection.

The project includes two parts: a book, tentatively titled, From Rockway to Augusta: My Life in Golf(written by Cowan with McPherson); and a virtual museum on the Canadian Golf Hall of Fame website featuring artifacts, videos, articles, and other highlights from Cowan’s career. The Golf Journalists Association of Canada is excited to make a donation of $1000 to assist with this project. The project is being funded solely by donations. Many individuals have already donated, but the project is still short of its targeted fundraising goal.
